Adoption Process

We are dedicated to finding the very best forever homes for retired racing greyhounds.
We provide ongoing support and encouragement to all of our families and hounds.
|
If * RESERVED * is under a dogs name this means someone has made a
enquiry about that particular dog and we are checking out the home
offer. But please do still contact us if the dog you are interested in
is on hold for someone else. If you can offer a loving home we can put
you on reserve in case that home offer doesn't work out, and if it does,
we can find another dog that's right for you. There's always lots of beautiful
and needy greyhounds looking for their special home. All our dogs are neutered
(except pups which are too young, then adopters need to agree to have this done),
vaccinated and most are microchipped. If you'd like to know more about our procedure to
adopt a greyhound please click on the Adoption Process link to the left.
Jenson
** I REALLY NEED A HOME **
Jenson is a 4 year old ex-racing greyhound boy who was retired from the track after a successful racing career. He is a lovely black boy with a distinguished, greying face.
Click
here
for details.
Dear Jenson was homed in the spring, but has sadly had to come back to us now due to a change in his owner’s work hours which meant he was being left for longer periods of time. He has also had half his tail removed after an injury, though he still wags it at every opportunity!
Jenson is a lovely, friendly chap who was well cared for during his racing career. As such he adores being around people and has a genial, laid back nature. He also absolutely loves his home comforts and is content to snooze most of the day away on his bed, though preferably will snooze on yours! He is used to living in a home, is housetrained and is ok to be left with another dog for company.
Jenson was initially very interested in small dogs, having never seen them before in his life. He has calmed down a lot over the past few months, however, and is now much more dependable around them. He can still get overly keen if the other dogs are in an excited state or are running around him, and we would recommend he be muzzled as a precaution when off-lead. He would also greatly benefit from attending some dog training or socialising classes so he can get used to seeing many different sized dogs. If introduced to other dogs in a slow, calm way, Jensen is a well-mannered dog. He is not cat friendly.
Jenson is a doddle to walk on the lead and rarely pulls. He is used to busy traffic and is quite steady when out, not usually getting spooked by noisy areas. Like most greyhounds, Jenson is also a total couch potato and does not need a huge amount of exercise. He will be content with two 30 minute walks a day and a chance to stretch his legs off-lead in a safe area once or twice a week.
This dear boy would be best suited to a relatively quiet home with no young children and another greyhound buddy to keep him company during the day.
**UPDATE: MAY 2011**
Dear Jenson is still waiting for his new forever home, though his buddy Lucas has now found his. Jenson is a lovely boy who is sadly being overlooked again and again.
~ Personality ~
Jenson looooves people and is such a cuddlebug. He is always happy to see someone come to his kennel and always has a waggy tail… even if it is a bit shorter than your average hound! Jenson will need an experienced hound owner who knows how greyhounds can behave. This boy is so loving and has so much to give to the right owner.
~ Other Animals ~
Jenson is a bit of ladies’ man and prefers the company of girls over the fella’s. He has lived with Lucas, another male, in the past but we feel Jenson would be happiest either with a more laid back female or as an only hound.
Jensen’s main flaw is he is not overly sociable with non-greyhounds. He is still learning that dogs can come in all shapes and sizes, and his first reaction right now is still to chase rather than to greet. He is getting better though, and is already better than when he first came to us. All this boy needs is repetition and time. He would be best with a patient owner who can look past this issue and see what a fantastic family member Jenson can be.
~ Where Am I? ~
Jenson is currently in a foster home in Norfolk. He can be homed anywhere in the UK, but please note that you will be required to travel to the foster home to meet/collect him.
~ Want To Adopt Me? ~
Jenson is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure.

Ted (aka Snowbreeze)
* RESERVED *
Meet the beautiful Ted. He is a 2 year old greyhound boy who is a failed racer and was handed in to us with his kennel mate Goldfish to find his forever family. Ted is in superb condition and has a very eye-catching white coat with fawn patches on his face. He is definitely an attention grabber and is sure to attract lots of admirers when out walking!
Click
here
for details.
~ Personality ~
Ted is a fabulous, happy go lucky boy who takes things as they come. We are still getting to know him as he has not been with us long, but so far he is just a star of a dog. His fantastic, uplifting personality is quite infectious and it is very hard not to smile when he greets you with a big toothy grin and a wagging tail. Snowbreeze loves absolutely everyone, and wants you to know it. Given half the chance he will smother you in kisses. He adores interacting with people and is going to love the home life so much.
~ Other Animals ~
Snowbreeze is very good with other dogs of all shapes and sizes, and enjoys being around them. He has a lot of energy and really loves to play chase with his houndy friends in our secure paddock. This boy would be happiest in a home with another youngish dog so that they can play together and expel some of that excess energy. He has not been tested with cats yet, but this can be carried out prior to adoption if needed.
~ In the Home ~
The lovely Snowbreeze has not yet been in a home environment, so new owners will need to be a bit understanding at the start and give him time to learn the house rules. It generally takes greyhounds 10-14 days to start to settle in a home, and really all they need is time and patience. Snowbreeze is a curious boy and is sure to be into everything when he first moves into a home, just to work out what it is and what it does.
Snowbreeze would be best suited to an active home who like going out and doing things with their dogs in their free time. He would be a bit too rambunctious for an elderly owner as he has the potential to pull them right off their feet if excited enough. Likewise he would be better in a home with older kids or teenagers, simply because if he got over excited he could knock a young child flying and not even realise it. He is still a big puppy at heart and doesn’t seem to know just how big he is!
~ Out and About ~
Snowbreeze LOVES getting out of his kennel to explore the world. It is by far the highlight of his day. Because of this he tends to become over excited when he initially starts out on his walk, and can be quite strong on the lead. With some work and, most importantly, decent amounts of regular exercise, this is something that can be completely rectified, and this over-exuberance is really his only flaw. He is very curious about his surroundings and is simply bursting to explore and learn about the world around him. Showing this eager to learn hound the big wide world will be such a retarding experience.
Recently Snowbreeze came along to Kerry Greyhound Connection’s annual Jamboree, and was a big hit with the crowds of people. He greeted everyone and everything with kisses and wagging tails for the entire day, and never stopped doling out his love. This super boy is going to be just a smashing pet and has so much potential and love to give his future owners.
~ Greyhounds as Pets ~
In general greyhounds are calm, mannerly dogs that are well used to being handled. They can fit very well in to a wide range of different lifestyles and usually adjust to the home life very quickly. Their soft, easy going nature often makes them ideal to live in a family environment, while their love of lazing around and low exercise requirements can make them perfect for the elderly. Greyhounds also don’t shed as much as other more popular dog breeds and this can make them suitable to live with allergy sufferers.
** UPDATE: JANUARY 2012 **
The beautiful Snowbreeze has been in foster care for approx. 4 months now, and is doing very well. His fosterer’s have given him the nickname of Ted, and it has stuck because he learned to come to it! We are amazed that this boy has been waiting for so long, as he really is a super fella.
~ Personality ~
Snowbreeze is a lovely boy, friendly and affectionate with his fosterers. He really enjoys being around people and will often choose to follow his foster mum around the house rather than play with the other dogs in his foster home. Snowbreeze is a calm, placid boy with few requirements and so it doesn’t take much to keep him very happy and contented.
~ In the Home ~
Snowbreeze is no trouble at all to have in the house, being fully housetrained, not destructive and ok to be left with other dogs for company. He doesn’t counter surf and is good as gold with everyone and everything. He is sharing his foster home with 2 jack russells and gets along splendidly with them both, but is also content to spend time alone if needed. As such he may be a suitable candidate to live as an only dog provided he got his daily quota of love and exercise. He seems to enjoy the company of people over other dogs, and can be aloof to his foster jack Russell’s play offers at times.
~ Out and About ~
Snowbreeze is a good boy when out on his walks, and tends to ignore the other dogs he passes. He can still pull on the lead if there's something he really wants to sniff, or if he sees a cat in the distance, but his lead skills are much better now than they were in kennels. Continued work should eradicate this problem altogether. He absolutely LOVES the car and will jump into it at any opportunity, even if it’s just parked at the house! Snowbreeze’s foster parents can now also let him offlead in secure areas, and he is well behaved and comes back when called.
~ Where Am I? ~
Snowbreeze is currently being fostered in Norfolk. Please contact us if you are interested in fostering or adopting Snowbreeze. He can be homed throughout the UK but please note that you will be required to travel to meet and collect him.
~ Want To Adopt Me? ~
Snowbreeze is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure.

Mitzi
Dear Mitzi is a 9.5 year old greyhound lady who has fallen on bad times recently.
Click
here
for details.
She was homed by us 2 years ago but has tragically just lost her beloved owner and now finds herself in rescue once again. She is a beautiful brindle lady with a very refined look about her.
~ Personality ~
Mitzi is obviously very confused and lost right now, and we are appealing to get this girl into a new stable home as soon as possible. She is very sweet and friendly, happy to meet everyone both young and old, and really just wants nothing more than a soft sofa and a cuddle.
~ In the Home ~
Mitzi has spent the past 2 years in a home environment and loves her comforts. She is perfectly behaved in the home and caused no trouble at all for her late owner. She is housetrained and quiet through the night, though is used to having company of some sort during the day. This loving lady would be an ideal companion for a retired couple who could dote on her all day long and spoil her rotten for the rest of her life.
~ Out and About ~
Though now approaching her twilight years, Mitzi still has a spring in her step and gets great enjoyment from her daily walks. She very much likes the routine of a walk in the morning followed by a long afternoon snooze. She walks like a gem on the lead, is very low maintenance and needs very little to be completely content.
~ Other Animals ~
Mitzi is good with other dogs and is very polite in her greeting of them provided they don’t jump all over her. Like many older ladies, she doesn’t want to play with ‘young hooligans’ and would be much happier with the quiet company of another older dog. She would, in turn, provide excellent and gentle company for an older dog. She can not be homed with cats and may need to be watched if a lot of small dogs are running loose, but in general she is very good.
~ Medical Issues ~
Mitzi has had a vet check-up and dental recently and apart from a couple bad teeth, was found to be in good health. She has now had these teeth removed and is eating all around her.

Maura
Maura is a 2 year old greyhound girl who didn’t show much interest in racing and so has been handed in to KGC to find her a family home.
Click
here
for details.
Maura is a pretty black girl who’s coat is a wee bit dull at the moment, but this should improve with a good quality diet. She is quite a big girl at 25” to the shoulder.
Maura is a sweet girl and enjoys being around people. She loves head rubs and is attentive to you once she gets to know you a bit. She is a new girlie to our kennels so we are still getting to know her, but she will soon be going in to foster care so we will update with her progress shortly.
Maura has been in general good with our other greyhounds, though has been a bit grumbly with some females. We don’t expect this behaviour to continue outside of kennels, however, as this type of territorial behaviour is most often linked to the high stress environment of kennel life. Maura is in general very good with other dogs, and was very mannerly with a little JRT she met recently. She is not entirely cat friendly.
Maura has not yet been in a home environmentso new owners will need to be a bit patient during the first couple of weeks and allow her time to settle in and learn the home rules. It generally takes 10-14 days for new greyhounds to start to settle down in a home, and really all they need is a bit of time and patience.
Like most greyhounds, Maura will not need a huge amount of exercise. She will be content with two 30 minute walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch her legs offl-ead in a secure area once or twice a week. She walks well on the lead and greatly enjoys the chance to get out of kennels for a while.

** APRIL UPDATE **
Maura has now travelled across to the UK where she continues the wait to be adopted. She is quickly adjusting the change in surroundings, and is a beautifully affectionate lady. She always has a waggie tail and loves a fuss.
Maura’s reaction to some female dogs is getting much better as she relaxes and realises there’s enough food and cuddles for everyone. She is good with all dogs regardless of size and we hope that her grumbles with some females will vanish once she is in the stability of a home environment.
Maura is currently in a foster home in Norfolk, UK. She can be homed anywhere in the UK, but please note that you will be required to travel to the foster home to meet and collect her. She is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure.
** UPDATE: JUNE 2011 **
The lovely Maura has been in her foster home for 6 weeks now, and has definitely made herself at home. She is in general a super little madam who is ready and waiting for her forever family to come along.
~ Personality ~
Maura’s fosterers describe her as a friendly and affectionate young dog, who is very lovable and has a bit of a mischievous streak! Maura is a confident, happy girl who can be quite independent and knows what she wants. At just about 2 years old this girl is in adolescence, just starting to enter adulthood, and it shows in her personality. She still has some puppyish traits but is also starting to assert herself as a confident, self assured young lady. She will test boundaries to see what she can get away with, and this is normal behaviour for a dog of her age. With consistent guidelines and boundaries, this girl takes heed and will do very well. Maura loves people and will do just about anything for a cuddle.
~ In the Home ~
Maura is well behaved in the home, and gets on well with her foster family. She has learned and responds to basic commands such as ‘no’, ‘out’ and ‘go lay down’, as well as coming to her name and to a whistle. She also understands boundaries and quickly learned that she was not allowed in the kitchen. She is even starting to retrieve on command!
Maura can have the occasional morning accident as she is still on ‘racing kennel time’, thinking the day starts at 6am. This habit is just that, and will fade with time and consistency – she is already sleeping later. Though Maura greatly enjoys human company, she isn’t an overly clingy girl and is quite content to find her own space and spend time alone. She has no problems being left with her greyhound friend when her foster parents are away.
Maura would thrive in an active home with another calm dog to be her role model. She is currently quite impressionable and learned a lot from the greyhound she shares her foster home with. As she can be like a black tornado when she gets excited, she would be best going to a home with older, dog savvy kids who won’t be bowled over by her antics. She can also jump up and sometimes nip when she is very excited, though this is being worked on in her foster home with good success. She would benefit from some dog training and socialisation classes to continue the work her fosterer’s have done on building her manners, as well as regular long walks to burn off all that energy.
~ Other Animals ~
Maura gets on well with most dogs, though can be a bit intimidated by overly aggressive, bouncy or, for some reason, big black dogs. This insecurity disappears once she knows the dog, and we think that with some repetition and positive socialisation, Maura will get over this small hump. She has bonded well with the greyhound in her foster home, and learned a lot from him when she first came to the home. Once comfortable, Maura is very playful and loves to play chase with other dogs of all sizes. She also loves her toys and simply adores anything that squeaks! She is not cat friendly.
~ Out and About ~
Maura is a good girl when out, and really does live for her walks. The longer the better for this girl! Her recall is a work in progress, but she does respond to her name. As already mentioned, Maura can become a bit agitated and nervy when meeting barking or aggressive dogs on her walks. She also can become quite frightened of large black dogs, though this is something that will fade with time and repetition. She also has the habit of liking to be ‘the leader’ of the walk, and if allowed to do so would pull on the lead. If she is kept to heel, however, she settles down and trots contentedly beside you. This is another example of Maura testing her boundaries, and if her owner keeps firm and consistent, she will settle down beautifully into that model hound. Apart from that, Maura is a star when out and absolutely loves meeting new friends.
Maura’s fosterer says she is one of the nicest dogs she has had the pleasure to meet, and dearly hopes Maura finds a family for her. With a bit of work on teaching her manners and limitations, this girl has the potential to be a fantastic family member – there is very little holding her back.

Titch
Titch is a small, pretty dark brindle girl. She was just 2 years old in March so this dear is still just a puppy.
Click
here
for details.
~ Personality ~
When Titch first meets you she is not really sure quite what to do and will hang her little head and tuck her tail under her body. Once she realises that you are going to give her lots of fuss this sweetheart will gently snuggle into you and start to relax. Eventually her tail will appear and start to wag!
She is still very unsure of the world in general and tends to watch and wait with one little front paw lifted quite endearingly off the ground while she assesses the situation.
Given time, we are sure that Titch will blossom into a happy, playful, loving and quite perfect companion. She just needs her special person to come along and find her and take her home.
In the meantime she’s waiting very patiently, with her little paw lifted up, for that to happen.
~ Other Animals ~
Titch is a sociable girl and is good with the other greyhounds in our kennels. She has not been tested yet with smaller dogs but this can be carried out prior to adoption if required. Often ex-racing greyhounds need a bit of socialisation with smaller dog breeds as they would never have seen them before, and at the start may not realise they are dogs! She is not able to live in a home with cats.
~ In the Home ~
Titch has not been in a home environment before, so new owners will need to be a bit patient during the first couple of weeks and allow her time to settle in and learn the home rules. It generally takes 10-14 days for new greyhounds to start to settle down in a home, and really all they need is a bit of time and patience.
~ Out and About ~
Titch walks very well on the lead and like most greyhounds, she will not need a huge amount of exercise. She will be content with two 30 minute walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch her legs off-lead in a secure area once or twice a week.
**UPDATE: DECEMBER 2011**
Titch has been in her foster home for a good 2 months now, and is settling and adjusting at a steady pace.
~ Personality ~
Titch is a lovely lady, adores people and likes to be the center of attention. She soaks up any fuss you give her as though it’s her last, and seems to crave physical contact from her foster parents. She will almost fall asleep whilst having head rubs and massages, and is happiest curled up with you while you watch the telly. She still has a bit to learn, but is responsive to training with yummy treats.
It’s important to know that Titch’s world has essentially been turned upside down and she will continue to slowly adjust to these changes over the next few months. She went from a racing kennel with its strict daily routine and minimal contact to living in a family home with amazing comforts and other dogs around her. Different hounds adjust to these changes in different ways, and with Titch this upheaval has resulted in her feeling insecure and anxious at times. This is manifesting as a warning growl at the other dogs in her foster home if she feels her personal space is being invaded or threatened. This growling has not amounted to anything, and is more just a vocalisation of her anxiousness at that current time. She has also had an unsettled tummy which is being attributed to her stress levels. Right now she is being fed a mild diet of cooked chicken and rice with dry Wainwright’s complete mix, and is doing better on this. She has put on some weight and is starting to fill out nicely.
This little girl is also developing a cheeky streak as she continues to settle, and likes to steal shoes and socks to collect in her bed. She doesn’t chew the items she pinches, just likes collecting them for safekeeping! Her most prized possession is her foster Mum’s knitting wool, which she loves to steal again and again just so she can snuggle with it in her bed! Titch is also learning how to play and loves running about with soft toys and a ball. She is an athletic girl with an active mind that has huge potential with the right owner.
~ In the Home ~
Little Titch is now accustomed to all the household sights and sounds and seems unphased by loud noises such as fireworks. Sadly, she is quite fearful of long objects that she thinks could potentially hit her, such as brooms and rolls of Christmas wrapping paper. She will shy away from them and remain wary until the object is out of sight. This nervousness should also diminish as Titch continues to settle and learn that nothing bad will happen to her anymore.
Titch is clean in the house, sleeps through the night and will stand by the back door to let you know she needs to go out. She is also learning some basic commands and is being taught to wait calmly for her supper.
~ Other Animals ~
Right now Titch is still in ‘racing hound’ mode and will chase other small furries, cats and small dogs if they are off-lead. Some hounds take a bit longer than others to learn that not every moving thing needs to be chased! Her fosterers are working with her on this and she will continue to improve the more she’s socialised and exposed to other dogs being dogs. When other dogs are on leads and calm, Titch is very well behaved and does not pull to get to them no matter what their size and shape.
~ Out and About ~
In general, Titch is well behaved on the lead and walks to heel with a gentle leader headcollar. Her fosterers have walked her through their local town during busy periods and she is unphased by all the hustle and bustle, adoring anyone who stops to make a fuss of her. She also loves the car and loves to travel with her foster parents.
~ Where Can I Live? ~
Titch’s ideal home as of right now would be one with no children due to her occasional growls, and no small dogs as she is still unsure as to what they are. She can live with larger dogs provided they are respectful of her space and her current stresses, but will need an owner who understands her current mind-set and needs. Please note that these requirements may likely change in the coming months as Titch continues to lose her anxiety and realise that she is safe in her foster home. This little girl is carrying a lot of weight on her shoulders, and we hope to see that lifted soon. There is still an awful lot of undiscovered potential in this dog, waiting to surface. She is full of surprises and is a very endearing little lady.
~ Where Am I? ~
Titch is currently in a foster home in Norfolk. Please note that adopters will need to travel to Norfolk to meet/adopt Titch.
~ Want To Adopt Me? ~
Titch is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure.

Wiggi
Wiggi is a 2 year old ex-racing greyhound girl who didn’t like the racing world at all and is now looking for a forever family to call her own. She is a dainty black girl who’s coat is a bit dull at the moment, but we hope it will improve once she is on a good diet.
Click
here
for details.
~ Personality ~
Wiggi is a dear little girl, but right now is extremely untrusting of people. She is coming out of her shell ever so slowly and will approach you if you come down to her level and allow her to work at her own pace. Any sudden movements or noises and she will run away from you, terrified of what might happen. Wiggi is very stressed in the kennels and we hope to get her out and into a foster home at the nearest opportunity. This girl sadly won’t begin to make marked progress until she is in a loving home where she can be around people at close quarters in a calm environment. She is very interested in treats so we hope food is Wiggi’s key. We will update with her progress in the near future.
~ Other Animals ~
Wiggi is well behaved with the other greyhounds in the kennels and is polite in meeting other dogs of all sizes. Ideally she needs to go to a home with at least one other self assured dog already present to show her the ropes, and that people can indeed be trusted. She has not been tested with cats but this can be carried out prior to adoption if required.
~ In the Home ~
Wiggi has not been in a home environment before, so new owners will need to be a bit patient during the first couple of weeks and allow her time to settle in and learn the home rules. It generally takes 10-14 days for new greyhounds to start to settle down in a home, and really all they need is a bit of time and patience.
Wiggi is going to need a very special home with patient owners who will not rush her in her progress. She will come out of her shell when she is ready and feels comfortable. Because of her very timid nature, Wiggi would be happiest going to a home in a rural area with other dogs and no young children, who may frighten her. If you think you can offer this dear girl such a home, please contact us.
~ Out and About ~
Right now Wiggi is quite frightened of the big world outside her kennel door, and is reluctant to walk comfortably with you. Noisy traffic and bustling crowds scare her, and lots of work will be needed in this area to get her comfortable with such scenarios. Step 1 is for Wiggi to learn to trust the people around her, then we can work on building her confidence in the world around her. Like most greyhounds, Wiggi will not need a huge amount of exercise. She will be content with two 30 minute walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch her legs offlead in a secure area once or twice a week.
** Update July 2011 **
Wiggi’s made so much progress in her foster home in Ireland that she’s no longer recognisable from the write up above. She is now very happy to come forward for hugs and affection. She does still occasionally take fright and freeze, but if left alone for a minute or two she will recover her composure and carry on.
Wiggi has a quirky, endearing little personality. When she gets upset about something, she sometimes makes an unusual moaning noise, as if she’s giving herself a good talking to (!), but soon stops if you ignore her.
She also likes to pick her food bowl up and empty the food onto the floor, so sje now eats from a heavy flat bowl to make it a bit more difficult for her!
Wiggi is a lovely, affectionate and lively dog who will continue to blossom once she finds a home and family of her own.
Wiggi has travelled over to the UK awhere she will make even more progress if we can find a loving permanent home for her. Could you be the one to help her?
** Update September 2011 **
Wiggi is doing so well in her foster home. She is coming out of her shell now and is becoming a happy, affectionate little girl. Wiggi likes to lay on her back and put all her feet up in the air when she sleeps. She also loves to have her neck rubbed and share Eskimo (nose to nose) kisses with you. When Wiggi greets you she pushes her head in between your arm and body so that you can hug her.
Wiggi no longer tips her food onto the floor but has learnt to wait politely in her bed until she is invited to eat. She is clean in the house and asks to go outside when she needs to. Wiggi sleeps quietly all night downstairs with her foster brother and sister.
Wiggi is learning about other breeds of dog and is calm and mannerly when she meets other well-behaved dogs. Her fosterers are continuing to socialise her with small dogs and she is learning quickly.
Wiggi is a tidy minded little girl and likes to pick up her foster Mum’s shoes and slippers and put them neatly in her bed. She shakes them all first just to make sure there is nothing in them!
Wiggi is a really lovely little girl with lots of potential, She would be very happy if she could find a new home with another dog to play with. She also plays a special ‘Windmills’ game with her foster parents and they have promised to teach it to her new family so that she can play it with them too!
~ Where Am I? ~
Wiggi is currently in a foster home in Hertfordshire. She can be homed anywhere in the UK, but please note that you will be required to travel to meet and collect her.
~ Want To Adopt Me? ~
Wiggi is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure.

Irene
Irene Irene is pretty white greyhound girl with black splodges who is just 2 years old. She has been handed to us with her sister Sandra as they weren’t fast enough for the racing world. Both Irene and Sandra have been named after two ladies who donate a lot of time and effort into knitting the dog jumpers that we sell in our online shop.
Click
here
for details.
Irene is only 26 inches in height and can curl up very, very small; you wouldn’t even notice her on your sofa! Both she and her sister are happy, friendly girls and we would love to find a home for these two dear ladies together if we can, but we would consider homing them separately if the right home comes along.
~ Personality ~
Irene is a lovely friendly lady who seems to just take things as they come. She enjoys people and still seems surprise at all the fuss and attention she’s getting now. She doesn’t ask for much, and is very happy go lucky. We will update with more info on her when we get to know her better.
~ Other Animals ~
Irene is a sociable girl and is good with the other greyhounds in our kennels. She has been tested with small dogs but a bit more socialising with them is needed before we would feel safe letting her live in a home with a small breed of dog. Often ex-racing greyhounds need a bit of socialisation with smaller dog breeds as they would never have seen them before, and at the start may not realise they are dogs! She is not cat friendly.
~ In the Home ~
Irene has not been in a home environment before, so new owners will need to be a bit patient during the first couple of weeks and allow her time to settle in and learn the home rules. It generally takes 10-14 days for new greyhounds to start to settle down in a home, and really all they need is a bit of time and patience.
~ Out and About ~
Irene walks very well on the lead and like most greyhounds, she will not need a huge amount of exercise. She will be content with two 30 minute walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch her legs off-lead in a secure area once or twice a week.
~ Where Am I? ~
Irene is has recently moved into a foster home in Norfolk with her sister Sandra. Please contact us if you are interested in adopting Irene. She can be homed throughout the UK but please note that you will be required to travel to Norfolk to meet and collect her.
~ Want To Adopt Me? ~
Irene is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure.

Sandra has a lovely white coat with black splodges and Dalmatian type dots on her face. Her coat is a wee bit lack lustre right now, but this will improve once she’s out of kennels. She is also missing the end of her tail due to an old injury that occurred before she came to us.
We would love to find a home for these two dear ladies together if we can, but we would consider homing them separately if the right home comes along.
~ Personality ~
Sandra is a friendly, sociable girl who we are still getting to know. She enjoys human company and seems to be a very amiable lady. She is always looking forward to her walks and her supper, and we hope to get her into a foster home soon so we can get to know her personality a little bit more.

Wanda
* RESERVED *
Wanda is a 2 year old greyhound girl who really didn’t take to the racing life. She has a white coat with big black spots that is sadly very dull and flaky at the moment. We hope this will improve with time and TLC. This dear girl was extremely stressed in kennels so has now moved to a foster home where she is slowly improving. Poor little Wanda seems to have led a tough life so far and is only now learning what it means to be loved by people.
Click
here
for details.
~ Personality ~
Wanda was at first very fearful and untrusting of people. Since moving into foster care a month ago, however, she has shown definite improvement and now interacts happily with her fosterers. In the home she is a pure delight; being confident, happy and super playful with everyone she knows and trusts. She is very sweet and affectionate and likes to give kisses. Wanda arrived without even the basic knowledge in human/dog interaction. She is learning now, but patience really is key with this girl. If she senses any frustration or anger she will become very fearful. Once she understands what you mean, she is very keen to do as asked. This girlie only wants to be loved.
Unfamiliar people are a different matter entirely right now, and Wanda is terrified of strangers. When visitors come to her home, she will come round after an hour or so provided she is ignored and not approached during this time. She will then come out of her hiding place and gently greet them, accepting chin and ear scratches nicely. When out in the big wide world, however, Wanda panics when she sees strangers and will not willingly walk past them on the street. This is being worked on daily by her fosterers and we hope to see improvement soon. It's early days yet for Wanda and she really does have tons of potential. She just needs to be freed from this heavy load of fear she is carrying.
~ Other Animals ~
Wanda adores other dogs and we feel she must go to a home with at least one other canine present to help her and give her confidence. She learns a lot from watching the other dogs in her foster home greet strangers and come away unharmed. She very much wants to be part of such sessions but is still just too afraid. With time and some canine buddies to be her crutch, we are sure that Wanda will eventually come out of her shell. Wanda is a very playful girl once she’s comfortable in her surroundings, and absolutely loves to play with other dogs. Having another similarly aged dog would be ideal for this girl as she lives to play and can pester older dogs if they’re not interested. Wanda has shown no malice to the cats she has met so far so may be cat friendly. This will be tested more thoroughly before she can be deemed as suitable to live with cats.
~ In the Home ~
Wanda is very well behaved in her foster home and doesn’t cause any trouble. She is housetrained, not destructive and is OK to be left with other dogs for company. She sleeps soundly through the night though is an early bird, liking to wake everyone up at 6am! Routine is important to this girl and she can get a bit anxious if things change.
Wanda will need a special someone who will give her the time she needs to help her get over her fears. She is a young girl yet with plenty to learn and it will be such a rewarding experience to gradually show this girl that the big world out there isn’t as scary as she thinks.
~ Out and About ~
Wanda has potential to be a beautifully mannered girl when out on walks. She walks very well on the lead and will only pull when she gets scared. She is quite energetic and will hopefully soon start to enjoy her walks. She is fine when passing other animals, including cats, but if she sees people coming her way she will try very hard to get away from them. She can go into a full panic if they get too close to her so must be walked with both a harness and a collar for now. There is no aggression in this dear, just a solid wall of fear.
Wanda is a very sweet little girl. She desperately wants to be loved but isn’t always brave enough. She will be an absolute delight for the family that are prepared to give her time to get to know them.
~ Where Am I? ~
Wanda is currently in foster care in Norfolk. She can be homed anywhere in the UK, but please note that you will be required to travel to the foster home to meet and collect her.
~ Want To Adopt Me? ~
Wanda is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure.

for details.
~ Personality ~
Bowie has only just come to us, so we are still assessing him. So far, though, Bowie has been nothing but a 5 star hound and has been easy going with the people and hounds in the kennels. He is very friendly and enjoys his head rubs.
~ Other Animals ~
Bowie has been good with the other greyhounds in our kennels so far, and likes getting to run with them. He has not been tested yet with smaller dogs or cats, but these can be carried out prior to adoption if required. Often ex-racing greyhounds need a bit of socialisation with smaller dog breeds as they would never have seen them before, and at the start may not realise they are dogs!

Rhett & Scarlett
* RESERVED *
Rhett & Scarlett are beautiful, 5 year old, black greyhounds. They are brother and sister, but until recently had been kennelled separately in their owner's back yard. The last two of a total of 9 greyhounds to be rehomed, Rhett and Scarlett have been waiting patiently for their new home. They are not dependent on each other and can be adopted separately.
Click
here
for details.
~ Personality ~
Rhett may have a distinguished greying face, but he is still full of fun and loves to play. He has a favourite toy called a Wiggle Giggle, which he takes to bed with him at the end of the day. Rhett will chase a ball and bring it back to you, but then keeps it to himself! He loves to be around people, and will follow you everywhere, so we feel he may need another doggy companion, or a home where someone is in most of the day.
Scarlett is a true lady, and finds chasing balls far too demeaning! She is very independent, loves to relax on her bed and watch the world go by, and leaves most of the playtime stuff to Rhett. Scarlett does enjoy her walks and gives adorable little squeaks of delight when she sees the lead. When she first arrived Scarlett would become very lame on her back leg after walks, but this has greatly improved since being in our care. She had signifcant hair loss on her thighs, and scabs from pressure sores which we think were from lying on a bare concrete floor. Her bald patches are starting to sprout little tufts of soft downy hair, so we are optimistic that she will be a true beauty given time. Rhett and Scarlett both travel well and walk calmly on the lead.
~ Other Animals ~
Rhett and Scarlett get on well with other dogs, large and small. Rhett can be slightly intolerant of some males if they try to play or grab him from behind, and he will give them a warning growl. We don't think that Rhett and Scarlett are cat friendly.
~ In The Home ~
As this lovely pair have never been in a home environment before it may take them a little time to make the adjustment. Rhett and Scarlett are very clean in their kennel, and all their other siblings had no problem being housetrained.
~ Where Am I? ~
Rhett and Scarlett are currently being boarded kennels in Norfolk. They can be rehomed anywhere in the UK, but please note that you will be required to travel to the Norfolk area to meet and collect them. This beautiful pair would greatly benefit from being in a foster home, and we are always in desperate need of new fosterers. It is such a rewarding experience, and costs are covered by us.
~ Want To Adopt Me? ~
Rhett and Scarlett are fully vaccinated (including kennel cough), microchipped, flea and worm treated, and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. Rhett is neutered, but unfortunately Scarlett came into season once at the kennels, so it will be a few more weeks before she can be spayed.

Lizzie
Meet the lovely Lizzie. She is a 3 year old ex-racing greyhound lady who’s owner asked us to rehome now that her racing career is over.
Click
here
for details.
Lizzie is a pretty, slender girl with almond shaped eyes that definitely pull on heart strings. She has a soft black coat with 4 sets of white toes.
~ Personality ~
Lizzie is a very gentle girl who is good with people and very mannerly around children. She is quiet and sweet and really just wants to be loved. Recently she has moved out of kennels at last and is now in a foster home, so we hope to learn more about her little character once she settles in.
~ Other Animals ~
Lizzie is well behaved and mannerly with the other greyhounds in her foster home. She is mindful of their personal space and doesn’t seem to have any vices. She has not met small dogs or cats yet, but we hope to gauge how she responds to them very soon.
~ In the Home ~
Lizzie has just moved in to foster care and so is learning all about a home now for the first time in her life. She has discovered the sofa, and is also starting to play with toys. She is doing well and remains very sweet and biddable, and we hope to update with her progress in the home in the near future, assuming she doesn’t get adopted first!
~ Out and About ~
Like most greyhounds, Lizzie does not need a huge amount of exercise. She will be content with two 30 minute walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch her legs off-lead in a safe area once or twice a week.

Regan
* ADOPTED *
Gentle Regan is an older gentleman of 10 years old. He was handed in to us with his brother Cuthbert.
Click
here
for details.
~ Personality ~
These two lovely old men have spent their whole lives together and we really want to try and find them a loving home where they can enjoy a very well deserved retirement together.
Regan is a handsome brindle hound who will soon turn glossy and sleek with a bit of tlc.
Older greyhounds are the most undemanding of dogs. All they want is a gentle walk a couple of times a day and a comfy bed to snooze on for the rest of the time. And of course, lots of love and affection, which they will return a hundred times over.
Do you have room in your heart (and on your sofa!) for an easy going oldie?
~ Other Animals ~
Regan is a sociable boy and is good with the other greyhounds in our kennels.
~ In the Home ~
Regan has not yet been in a home environment, so new owners will need to be a bit understanding at the start and give him time to learn the house rules. It generally takes greyhounds 10-14 days to start to settle in a home, and really all they need is time and patience.
~ Out and About ~
Like most greyhounds, Regan is a real couch potato and does not need a huge amount of exercise. He will be content with two 30 minute walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch his legs off-lead in a safe area once or twice a week.
~ Greyhounds as Pets ~
In general greyhounds are calm, mannerly dogs that are well used to being handled. They can fit very well in to a wide range of different lifestyles and usually adjust to the home life very quickly. Greyhounds also don’t shed as much as other more popular dog breeds and this can make them suitable to live with allergy sufferers.
~ Update November 2011 ~
Regan has been living in a foster home for a little while now and has settled in well. His foster Mum says that although he is the oldest dog that they have ever fostered, he is very sprightly for his age and loves his walks.
Lovely Regan was handed into us with his sister Cleo and brother Cuthbert. These two lucky hounds are reserved for loving homes in Belgium and we hope that Regan won’t be waiting too long now for his new family.
Regan has adapted very well to home life and loves to relax in front of the fire, laying upside-down on his back with all his legs in the air! Regan came to us a little underweight but with 3 healthy meals a day he has put on 2.5Kg and looks much better. His beautiful brindle coat is soft and shiny now.
Regan is very well behaved in the house. He doesn’t try to get on the furniture or go upstairs. He is also happy to be left with other dogs for company for up to 3 hours at a time. Regan walks very well on his lead and although he is interested in cats he pays them no attention when he’s out and about. He also loves to go for rides in the car and travels well.
This lovely boy has already waited 10 years to find his forever home. Please don’t let his age put you off - Regan is still very young at heart. He is such a loving boy and has so much to offer to his new family.
~ Where Am I? ~
Regan is currently in a foster home in Norfolk. He can be rehomed anywhere in the UK, but please note that you will be required to travel to the foster home to meet and collect him.
~ Want To Adopt Me? ~
Regan will be neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure.

Onyx
Onyx is a 7 year old, gentle black female. Once her racing career was over she produced a litter of pups, but now her owner would like to find a comfy sofa for Onyx to spend her retirement years on.
Click
here
for details.
~ Personality ~
Onyx is an easy going girl, she adores people and is well behaved towards children. She loves to be out in the fresh air and exploring all the new smells in the garden each day.
~ Other Animals ~
Onyx has only ever been around other greyhounds, with whom she gets on well. She has not been tested with smaller dogs or cats, but these can be carried out prior to adoption if required.
~ In the Home ~
As she has not yet been in a home environment, Onyx's new owners will need to be patient and give her time to learn the house rules. Her sister was recently adopted and has already developed excellent house manners, and we expect that Onyx will be exactly the same.
~ Out and About ~
Like most greyhounds, Onyx does not need a huge amount of exercise. She will be content with two 30 minute walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch her legs off-lead in a safe area once or twice a week.

Huxley
* RESERVED *
Huxley is an adorable and active, 4 month old pure bred greyhound puppy. Due to a leg injury, Huxley will not be able to be trained for the racetrack, and so is looking for a loving home as a family pet.
Click
here
for details.
~ Personality ~
As with most puppies, Huxley is a bundle of fun and mischief, and will keep his new family entertained for hours. His party piece at the moment is to steal a hat and run off with it! It is thought that his leg injury was either present at birth or happened when he was only a few days/weeks old. This has led to a slight bone deformity on his wrist, but it will not stop Huxley from playing and running just like any other hound. Obviously though, the wrist will not be strong enough for the stresses and strains placed on it at the tight bends of a racetrack, and for this reason Huxley is up for adoption. Puppies take up a lot of time when they are young and need a home where someone will be there with them for a significant part of the day.
~ Medical Issues ~
At the moment Huxley is to be assessed and x-rayed by a specialist orthopaedic vet. He has serious difficulty in one of his legs and if it is not sorted it will lead to severe arthritis.
We are waiting on the outcome of the assessment but if an operation is needed it may cost in the region of £1,500 - at charity rates.
So at the moment we Huxley is not available for adoption. Once we have a final report on the pup we will update his profile.
~ Other Animals ~
Huxley is currently living with an older greyhound, and sees any animal as someone new to play with. As he is still young he should be able to be trained to live with cats, and will benefit greatly from puppy classes.
~ In the Home ~
Housetraining is a work in progress as Huxley has only been in a home environment for a few weeks. He has another greyhound to copy, so it won't take him long to get the hang of things!
~ Where Am I? ~
Huxley is currently with the greyhound trainer in a home in Ireland, and can be transported within Ireland, to the UK or Europe when a suitable permanent or foster home comes up. If you are in the UK and wish to meet/adopt him, he will be fostered in the Norfolk area.
~ Want To Adopt Me? ~
Huxley will be vaccinated, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. Adopters will have to sign a form to agree to have their puppy neutered when he is around 6 months old and we will check back to ensure this is done, we also ask for £100 towards this at the time if the adoption.

Tazz
Say hello to handsome Tazz! He is a 4 year old ex-coursing greyhound boy who is now firmly finished with the racing world and wants a family to call his own. Tazz is a very gorgeous fella, with a soft fawn coat and the most amazing ears that stand to attention when he’s listening to you!
Click
here
for details.
~ Personality ~
Tazz is absolutely bursting to meet the world. He truly loves life, and is not shy about smothering you in kisses while his big helicopter tail spins in a blur. He is an active boy who likes to be out investigating and discovering new things, and gets very excited when he realises its walking time.
The slight drawback to all this healthy exuberance is Tazz can become over-excited at times and can be a big bouncy boy. A large part of this excitement is due to him being still in kennels at the moment. We hope to get him in to an experienced foster home in the near future, and with that change should come some calmness and relaxation as Tazz will finally be getting the attention he is crying out for. He is not at all an uncontrollable boy; he simply has so much love to give that at the moment it’s coming out in bouncy bursts!
~ Other Animals ~
Tazz is very good with the other greyhounds that come and go in our kennels. He enjoys their company and loves to play chase during his off-lead sessions.
He does, however, get very excited when he sees other non-greyhound shaped dogs, simply because he has never seen them before now. It’s clear that he does not yet know that dogs can come in small sizes, and he is unsure what to make of small breeds such as terriers. When introduced to small dogs in a calmly and controlled fashion, he settles down and has walked along with them during our kennel walks, but he is definitely still a work in progress in this area. He will need many more exposures to many other dogs before he is completely convinced that they are, in fact, dogs!
~ In the Home ~
Tazz has not yet been in a home environment, so new owners will need to be a bit understanding at the start and give him time to learn the house rules. It generally takes greyhounds 10-14 days to start to settle in a home, and really all they need is time and patience.
~ Out and About ~
Tazz walks well on the lead once the initial excitement has worn off. He will get excited and bouncy if he sees another dog in the distance, which is linked with his need for further socialisation with other dogs. Once he has fully met and accepted the other dog, however, he is very well behaved and walks to heel.
Although Tazz is very lively and active right now, we expect some of this energy to dissipate once he is in a home environment and getting consistent attention and stimulation. Once settled, we don’t expect he should need much more than two 30 minute walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch his legs off-lead in a safe area once or twice a week.
~ Where Can I Live? ~
As mentioned, Tazz has not yet experienced living in a home and we hope to move him in to an experienced foster home as soon as possible. He is sure to absolutely adore the home life and we can’t wait to see him playing with toys and sleeping on sofas.
Because right now he is a bouncy boy who does not quite realise how big he is, it would be best if Tazz went to a home without young children as he may knock them over. This dear boy will also need a hound savvy home with people who know how greyhound minds work so that he can continue to improve his socialisation skills. With the right kind of work and repetition, the beautiful Tazz has oodles of potential and should undergo a transformation once he is out of kennels. We dearly hope that his bouncy nature and need for socialisation doesn’t turn people away from adopting this lad, as he is sure to bring years of entertainment to whomever gives him a sofa space.
~ Where Am I? ~
Tazz is currently being kennelled in Norfolk. He can be homed anywhere in the UK, but please note that you will be required to travel to Norfolk to meet and collect him.
~ Want To Adopt Me? ~
Tazz is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. This dear boy would benefit so very much from a chance to live in a foster home and Kerry Greyhounds UK is always eager for new foster volunteers. It is an extremely rewarding experience and costs are covered by us.

Skyman
Meet Skyman. He is a 3 year old ex-racing greyhound boy who’s racing career is now over. He is a lean, leggy boy with a very noble face and he is sure to be an absolute stunner once his currently dull coat gets some healthy shine to it.

~ Personality ~
Skyman is new to our rescue so we are still getting to know each other. So far though, he has been a real star and a bit of a ladies man! He loves getting some fuss and attention, and enjoys getting out to see the world too.
~ Other Animals ~
This gorgeous boy has been very good with the other greyhounds in our kennels so far, and enjoys his daily walk with them. He does, however, get very excited when he sees other non-greyhound shaped dogs, simply because he has never seen them before now. It’s clear that he does not yet know that dogs can come in small sizes, and he is unsure what to make of small breeds. He will need many more exposures to many other dogs before he is completely convinced that they are, in fact, dogs! He is not cat friendly.
~ In the Home ~
Skyman has not yet been in a home environment, so new owners will need to be a bit understanding at the start and give him time to learn the house rules. It generally takes greyhounds 10-14 days to start to settle in a home, and really all they need is time and patience.
~ Out and About ~
Like most greyhounds, Skyman doesn’t have high energy levels and so does not need a huge amount of exercise. He will be content with two 30 minute walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch his legs off-lead in a safe area once or twice a week. Right now Skyman gets happy and overexcited when out on his walks, and does pull a bit on the lead when starting out. This should settle fairly quickly once he gets more used to all the attention and when he’s getting more opportunities to let off steam in a home environment. It is being worked on right now with our volunteer dog walkers and he is already showing improvement.

~ Personality ~
Jake has been very well looked after during his racing career and is in good condition. His trainer has asked us to find him a loving retirement home.
~ Other Animals ~
Jake is a sociable boy and is good with the other greyhounds in our kennels. At the moment Jake needs socialisation with smaller dog breeds as he does not realise they are dogs! We don't think Jake will ever to be able to live with a small breed of dog.
~ In the Home ~
Jake has not yet been in a home environment, so new owners will need to be a bit understanding at the start and give him time to learn the house rules. It generally takes greyhounds 10-14 days to start to settle in a home, and really all they need is time and patience.
~ Out and About ~
At the moment Jake does pull on his lead but our dog walkers are working on this and we're sure it won't be long before he gets over his excitement at seeing the world outside of kennels. He will be content with two 30 minute walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch his legs off-lead in a safe area once or twice a week.
